Who We Are

  • Provides year-round environmental education programs for schools, the public and civic groups
  • Provides the public over 1,300 acres of forests, wetlands, prairies and parks to explore
  • Manages all Mahaska County parks, river accesses and wildlife areas
  • Offers a quarterly newsletter the "Prairie Star" to update the public on MCCB events
  • Manages cabins at the Eveland Access Campground
  • Manages the Eveland Access Campground located 4 mi south of Beacon, IA on T39 adjacent to the Des Moines River (see Eveland Access Campground on Facebook)
  • Currently planning and fundraising with the Friends of Mahaska County Conservation for a new Environmental Learning Center at Caldwell Park, located just east of Oskaloosa

What We Do

The primary mission of this organization is to create an awareness of our natural environment, encourage a state of harmony between people and their land communities, develop and implement public conservation policy, maintain the public's investment in our natural resources, and strive diligently within the budget restraints to provide adequate services for the environmental education and enjoyment of the citizens of Mahaska County.
