Search for the Saw Whet

Bundle up and join MCCB Naturalist, Laura DeCook, at the Russell Wildlife Area at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 18 to help search for an owl that is a rare, wintertime visitor.  The Northern Saw Whet Owl is a can visit Iowa during the winter and can be found in cedar tree groves.  Once seen perched upon a tree branch in the daylight, they will not move and allow you to see them up close.  We will begin with an indoor talk about saw-whets and follow up with a hike to search for saw-whets in the cedar trees around the Russell Wildlife Area.  Please dress for the weather!  This event Is for all ages.
