United Way of Mahaska County is in need of volunteers to pick-up food from the United Way office for our Take Along Program and deliver to the Oskaloosa Elementary and Oskaloosa Middle School.
The Take Along Food program helps ensure that the students who have been identified as food insecure receive meals on the weekends.
Volunteers will pick up the food from the United Way office around 1:00 PM. The food will be in plastic sacks and placed in large totes. The totes can be very heavy. We suggest bringing a friend to help lift and transport the totes to your vehicle.
Once the totes are loaded, the volunteer will deliver food first to the Oskaloosa Elementary, drop off the totes for the Elementary at the back loading dock entrance, load the empty totes from the week before, and then head to the Oskaloosa Middle School. The Middle School will have a rolling cart to use to transport the totes outside the Main Entrance. The Middle School should also have empty totes from the previous week that will be returned to the United Way office. All empty totes from the Elementary School and Middle School must be returned to the United Way office at 102 1st Ave East.
The Elementary School drop off must take place between 1-2pm at the back loading dock entrance and the Middle School drop off must take place before 3:30pm. The entire volunteer shift should take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete.
Thank you for helping to feed the youth of Mahaska County!
